Bad Berneck Germany

Hello all! Wal here. That's like the Germans would say because they say their V's like W's. But I like it because it sounds like Wow! Anyway, down to business. We met up with our Australian friends Shane and Lauren Horton in Germany. It was awesome, because they knew exactly where they were going and what they were doing because they had been here before. After they arrived at the airport we jumped into our rental car and off we went on our first adventure.

Our first adventures included Lauren as the navigator as Shane drove us to our final destination, Bad Berneck (BB). Bad Berneck is a little town in which our Australian friends, Mike and Viv Jeffs own a sweet house! Along the way we decided to stop for our first German cuisine. It consisted of pommes (french fries) and burgers at good old "Burger King." Haha! It was delicious though. When we finally got near BB we decided to go to the grocery store so we would have some food for the next day. (They next day was Sunday and no stores are open then.) We rolled up to the store called "Real." We were looking for the store for a few minutes, and finally found it. As we approached the doors, a man came and... and... locked the doors. It was just after 8:00PM and they were closed. So we missed out, but we had a good laugh about it. They just forced us to eat at a cute little pub the next night. The next few days were filled with good times. We began each morning by sleeping in! Then we would "party" the night away. (Our parties included watching movies and playing games.) Here are some of the highlights from Germany.

Lauren and Shane took us to a beautiful garden with water fountains, called Ermitage. We sat at the little café and waited for the fountains to go off and the waitress was confused by our English. It was a little funny. We took loads of pictures and loved every minute. (The only parts Josh didn’t like were the bees!)

On another day we went to Bayreuth and went shopping. We bought a soccer ball for Josh and a ring for Val. We also found two things we were looking for 1) an internet café and 2) a phone card to call home.

On a different day we went for a little hike around BB and saw the chapel, and the clock tower on the hill. It was funny because there was a man repelling down the clock tower and there were people dressed in medieval costumes where we were going to eat lunch. So we ate somewhere else and still had a great time. We then played a round of mini golf at the local course. It was CRAZY. One of the obstacles was like a driving range, and our balls were like bouncy balls, not golf balls. All in all, we had a great time with the Hortons in Germany, and you will hear about them again… when we are on the Sunshine Coast in Aussie Land!
